Excerpt
The work of female artists, often overlooked in favour of that of their male counterparts, is finally being reevaluated in the contemporary art world. Talented
artist and uncompromising woman, Christine Ankaoua undoubtedly belongs to the generation of female painters whose work deserves to be better known today. Displaying a distinctive mastery of colour, Ankaoua’s creations have established her since the 1980s as one of the leading figures of abstract art in France.
In 2025, Ankaoua will celebrate her eightieth birthday. To mark the occasion, we plan to organise a retrospective to encourage the public to rediscover her work and recontextualise it within the contemporary artistic landscape.
This dossier, prepared by Alice Black and Louis Delbarre for ArtULTRA, is addressed to gallery owners, exhibition curators, art event and festival organisers, as well as art enthusiasts. It is an invitation to explore the life and remarkable work of the painter Christine Ankaoua.
